I quit counting awhile ago
but you never know
I usually count too fast
don’t know if Luke could’ve got 100 yet
I think he’s an ok counter
I wonder if anyone saw where I headed
Becky usually can’t find good hiding places on her own
I hope she didn’t try to follow me
I didn’t see anybody else around
not after I went down the hill
no one saw
I’m pretty sure Adam is probably pretty close
I don’t know where he goes
but when the game’s over
he’s always walking back from the hill
and the junkyard
I went there
this time
I didn’t see much around the junkyard
to hide in
There were a few metal box things stacked up
and a bunch of old cars
I didn’t see Adam anywhere
this time though
probably thought I was spying on him
but I wasn’t
I’ve had this new spot picked out for awhile now
ever since last time we played
but I haven’t told no one about it
and I bet I never do
not when I’m winning all the time
What number was I on
when I stopped counting?
I don’t remember
70 something
maybe
Maybe I should pick up
from there
So I know
to be more quiet
though I ain’t moving at all
in here
it’s kinda tight
and I can’t see much
But I don’t think anyone will hear me
anyway
not in here
I’ll skip to 80
81
Ain’t no one
gonna
find me
not in the best hiding place
ever
I can probably breathe
as loud as I want
82, 83
wish it
wasn’t so
dark
though
84
85
It’s hot
in here
hope
the game
goes
quick
86
maybe it started
and I’m
counting slow
87
or I started
late
90
But
it’s ok
92
I could
hide
in here
all day
96
and not
get
caught
97
cause
who’d
ever think
to look
in an
old
refrigerator
This is very cool and VERY creepy.
Thanks! I wrote this for a writer’s group anthology in late 2009. In the printed version, I played around more with spacing, so the lines, and eventually words, get further apart toward the end.
